What This Site Does
Florida treats most jail and inmate information as public record. The real trouble is figuring out which system actually holds the person you are looking for, because no single database covers everyone in custody. Three separate authorities run three separate tools, and they do not talk to each other.
The Bay County Sheriff's Office runs the local jail roster. That roster covers people awaiting trial and those serving short local sentences at the county jail. Once someone is sentenced to state prison, they leave that roster behind. Sentenced state prisoners show up in a different place: the statewide locator run by the Florida Department of Corrections. People held on federal charges or immigration matters appear in yet other systems, such as the Federal Bureau of Prisons locator and the ICE detainee locator. Knowing which bucket applies saves a lot of wasted searching.
Our job is to gather all of that into one spot for Bay County.
